Kraft paper vs plastic pouches: which is right for your product?
Kraft paper often gives packaging a natural, understated look. Plastic pouches are available in many different finishes, including transparent, matt, glossy and coloured. The best choice depends on both the appearance you want and the protection your product needs against factors such as moisture, oxygen and light.
When should you choose kraft and when plastic?
A kraft pouch is a good choice when you want a natural appearance. Kraft material feels sturdy and robust and helps reinforce this look.
Plastic pouches are available in many different finishes. Matt white can create a clean and understated look, while glossy black can feel more striking and premium. Coloured pouches can also help match your packaging to your brand identity. With transparent plastic, the product itself remains visible.
Plastic can also be practical if products may spill or smear during filling, as the surface is often easier to wipe clean. If moisture is important, do not only look at the outside of the pouch. Consider the complete material structure and the protection it provides.
Which pouch protects your product best?
The best pouch is the one that matches the needs of your product. Choosing between kraft and plastic based on appearance alone is therefore not enough.

A transparent pouch shows the product clearly, but it also lets light through. If your product is sensitive to light, a non-transparent pouch may be a better option.
Is a kraft pouch always made entirely from paper?
No. A kraft pouch can have a paper appearance on the outside while being made from several material layers.
The inner layer may serve a different purpose, such as helping the pouch seal properly or protecting the contents. A kraft appearance therefore does not automatically mean that the entire pouch is made from paper.
